Samarkand was famous not only for its
architectural monuments, it was also known for its famous gardens in the
immediate vicinity of the city built by another great conqueror Amir Temur.
Let`s speak shortly about these gardens:
- Bogi Bihisht (Garden of Paradise) was built in 1378 in the west of Samarkand city.
- Bogi Baland (High garden) was built in the northern part of Samarkand near the present airport.
- Bogi Dilkusho (Garden of delights) was built in 1397 on the right side of the street which is called Pendzhekenski at present.
- Bogi Zhahonnamo (Garden mirror of the world) was built 42 km from the city of Samarkand near Zeravshan mountain.
- Bogi Maydon (Large garden) near the elevation “Chupan – ota”.
- Bogi Nav (New garden) was built on the territory of the present village Lolazor.
- Bogi Shamol (Garden with wind) was built in 1397 near the present street Bagi Shamal.
They were very different from today's
gardens, plantations whose main purpose was to get rich harvest so - big
profit. It is both a place of rest was the owner of the garden, surrounded by
high clay border- duval with magnificent gates. Through the territory of the
garden flowed ditches and canals. A variety of fruit and ornamental trees were
mixed and were entwined with vines of grapes.
Gardens built by lords were even more beautiful and majestic. Garden entrance was through a large wooden gate. Paths were lined with marble; they were in the halls with wooden pillars and decorative carvings. Grew in the garden trees such as apricots, apples, pears, mulberries, grapes, quince, walnuts, etc. as well as ornamental trees such as sycamore, poplar, willow and especially cypress trees. Colorful flowers were planted. Among these heaven plants walked around pheasants and peacocks. In remote parts of the garden could be seen deer.
Garden, as already mentioned, was a place for a rest and relax for its guests, there were organized competitions, wrestling, competitions in archery, passed a national circus high-wire, conducted national spring holidays - Navruz and the harvest festival “Kovun sayli”. Sometimes weddings were also held. Foreign guests were received.
Unfortunately just the names of these gardens remained nowadays. Perhaps it is possible to re-recreate at least one of these gardens. It is quite possible. And in these gardens have to be a mosque and a teahouse for the preparation of national dishes. How important are these gardens for our people and country? –It`d be enlarged flow of foreign tourists. It`d be improved the environment of the city and grow ecological fresh fruits.
